Within a matter of weeks, major cities in Afghanistan including its capital Kabul have fallen into the control of the rifle-carrying Taliban fighters. This sudden defeat of the Afghanistan government forces has caused a great deal of fear for many Afghans. They fear for their freedom including traveling in the country and out of the country, their rights to protests and education, and women's rights. Before the defeat of the Afghanistan government forces, people in Afghanistan are building better life in its thriving cities. I hope that the journalists in Afghanistan can continue to keep the representatives of the Taliban fighters in check and keep them accountable for the promises they recently made to their fellow Afghans with respect to freedom of travel and women's rights. Right now, it's truly a frightening scene with rifle-carrying Taliban fighters standing on the main streets of the cities of Afghanistan everyday. I hope tomorrow's Afghanistan will turn around and go back on the path to economic growth and peaceful collaboration with the world.| Feng Zhou |
