If Russia and Ukraine can both withdraw from neighboring countries' land, meet other NATO eligibility requirements and become part of NATO simultaneously, it would bring long term peace between Russia and Ukraine, and enhanced security to all NATO nations. NATO should consider extending an olive branch to Russia as several NATO nations on the other hand have been supplying the service, software, and hardware components to Ukraine's defense system without which Ukraine would have been in more difficult defense position against Russia's invasion. The war started partly because Russian government was concerned about NATO's expansion towards Russia's western border, but if Russia and Ukraine can both meet the conditions to join NATO including respecting the soveignty and territorial integrity of neighboring countries, the security concern for Russia could dissipate and security posture of all NATO members would improve. One possible process to achieve ceasefire today and long term peace in the future could be the following:
  1. The secretary of NATO, Mr. Rutte, invites Russia and Ukraine to meet membership requirement including withdrawing troops from neighboring countries.
  2. Russia and Ukraine cease fire, and Russia withdraws troops from Ukraine.
  3. Russia and Ukraine finishes other requirements, NATO accepts both Russia and Ukraine.
We can check for the correctness of this approach with general-purpose and war-specific AI models and see if there're other approaches to help Ukraine war end, thousands of soldiers have died in the war, they could have been working in solar energy, data centers, and chip manufacturing on the vast lands of Russia and Ukraine, I still remember watching on TV Russians and Ukrainians singing and dancing in Russian language together in the 90s. I hope ceasefire will occur soon in this AI age.
