At this point, the coronavirus still retains two properties which continue to challenge our hospitals and our general population: 1) It's easy to catch the virus from an asymptomatic or symptomatic patient if a previously uninfected person stays within 6 feet and doesn't wear proper face covering; 2) Close to 20% of the patients require hospitalization. In mid March, both County of Santa Clara along with its neighboring counties and State of California orderd everyone to stay at home except for essential needs. At the time of the declaration, Governor Newsom's COVID-19 model projected that 56% of Californians, about 22 million people, would have been infected within 8 weeks if the current social distancing measures had not been put into place. Three weeks into the shelter-in-place orders, a total of 16,957 Californians have tested positive as of April 7. This indicates that the mandatory physical distancing measures are working and the curve is being flattened. Let's continue to follow the stay-at-home orders, drive down the number on new infections, drive down the number on hospitalizations.
In good health,
