We have been using portable air conditioners(AC) in the house for years, they have provided us enough cooling in the summer months. On one portable AC, the hose carrying the hot air out became so fragile that hot air started to leak from the hose. Yesterday, I took a closer look at the hose and found something interesting, the part of the hose closer to the AC unit was intact, only the part of the hose closer to the window was fragile. My theory is that the temperature of the air in the hose closer to the window is higher than that of the air in the hose closer to the AC unit, and the higher temperature causes the affected portion of the hose to become fragile sooner than the portion of the hose containing the air at a slightly lower temperature, albeit still hot. So I removed the whole hose from the AC unit, detached the fragile part using a utility knife and a pair of pliers, reattached the remaining part of the hose back. Fortunately in my case, the remaining good part of the hose is long enough for the original setup. Voila! We're back in business!| Feng Zhou |
